As in much of the Western world, spiritual apathy is significant in Belgium. Christianity is seen as a negative thing, and faith has been banished from the public sphere.
Brussels, the capital city, is diverse socially, ethnically and economically. There is a growing Muslim population. Many small towns, particularly in the Flemish-speaking areas, have little or no Gospel witness. There is good outreach work being done within the universities and colleges, but the work is not easy.
