God, in his sovereignty and grace, uses people’s suffering to undermine their self-sufficiency, to bring them into contact with Christians and the gospel, and to make them more sensitive to spiritual things and more open to the gospel, more willing to give the gospel a hearing. The aim of the conference is to demonstrate the truth of this principle from the Bible and to illustrate it with examples from the lives and ministries of missionaries.

The Apostle Paul wasn’t ashamed of the gospel. Nor was Martin Luther. Nor were the many thousands of martyrs, missionaries, pastors, and ‘ordinary Christians’ who lived and died for Christ.
But what about us? Why might we feel ashamed of the gospel or embarrassed by the gospel? Well, maybe because the gospel puts us on ‘the wrong side of history’, exposes us to the ridicule— and even the hatred — of the world in which we live, and may well lead to discomfort, rejection, and worse.
But, whether the pressure comes from a gospel-less majority religion or from aggressive anti-Christian ideologies, if we’re Christians, our first duty (and privilege) is to fear, love, and please God, not people. Join us to be edified and equipped to stand firm in the gospel.
