North Macedonia, officially the Republic of North Macedonia, is a landlocked country in south-east Europe. It shares land borders with Kosovo to the north-west, Serbia to the north, Bulgaria to the east, Greece to the south, and Albania to the west.
Skopje, the capital and largest city, is home to a quarter of the country's 2 million people. The majority of the residents are ethnic Macedonians, a South Slavic people. Albanians form a significant minority at around 25%, followed by Turks, Roma, Serbs, and a few other minorities. Ethnic divisions dominate politics and society.
Orthodox Christianity is the major religion in North Macedonia, followed by the members of Islam, then Catholicism. Evangelical Christians are a tiny minority (0.2% according to Operation World 2010).
