Series
Europe Needs the Gospel
Description
The early church grew meteorically through church planting. Europe is again in a situation where there are very few evangelical churches, so is church planting as important now as it was in the first years of Christianity? For EMF, church planting has always been at the heart of its mission focus.
Philip Moore (Acts 29)

Philip Moore, the Acts 29 Associate Director and Network Director for Europe, has been involved in church planting in France since 2006, and leads our thinking on this topic. In the webinar we'll be considering:

  • The biblical basis for church planting
  • The lessons of church planting from recent experience across Europe, and France in particular.
  • The challenges and joys of church planting.
  • How Christians in the UK can get behind the efforts to plant churches across Europe

Main Speaker:
Jean Woods, Pilar Herrera Carretero, Vivienne Birch and Jenny Mariotti
Series
Europe Needs the Gospel
Description
Jean Woods, Pilar Herrera Carretero, Vivienne Birch and Jenny Mariotti have all been EMF missionaries (the latter in Italy, the others in Spain), serving for many years in different capacities, both by themselves or alongside their husbands. They will be discussing this important topic as a panel discussion, and enabling us to gain insight into the joys and trials of missionary life, and enabling us to understand how support the women workers in Europe more faithfully.

All throughout EMF’s 60-year history, women have played a pivotal role in the work of the gospel in Europe. Some as individual outreach workers, working with women and children; others as wives actively supporting their husbands in church leadership, others working within fellowships teaching and working with women in the churches. The particular challenges and trials of missionary life can often fall heavily on the shoulder of the women, and these can be acute when long-sufferance is needed and disappointments are many. But these challenges are rarely voiced or shared with supporters.

Jean Woods, Pilar Cano Vivienne Birch and Jenny Mariotti have all been EMF missionaries (the latter in Italy, the others in Spain), serving for many years in different capacities, both by themselves or alongside their husbands. They will be discussing this important topic, and enabling us to gain insight into the joys and trials of missionary life, and enabling us to understand how support the women workers in Europe more faithfully.

Evangelizing Catholics: Why and how?
July 6, 2020
7:30 pm
Main Speaker:
José Moreno Berrocal
Series
Europe Needs the Gospel
Description
A Spanish perspective. Why do we need to evangelize Roman Catholics? Does Roman Catholicism share the same gospel as the evangelical church? Do evangelicals need to understand the mindset of Roman Catholicism in order to communicate the gospel clearly? In this webinar José Moreno Berrocal, an EMF missionary and pastor in Alcázar de San Juan will be exploring these questions.

While Europe has become the most secular continent in the world, many millions of people remained committed to or strongly influenced by Roman Catholicism. In half of the countries where EMF works, Roman Catholicism is the dominant religion, and often forms a part of national identity - but there are major variations across these countries. Evangelicals and Roman Catholics may well agree on many moral and ethical issues, for example, on abortion or the role of the family. But do evangelicals share the same gospel with Roman Catholics, and if not, how do evangelicals go about sharing the gospel?
