Europe is now the least evangelized continent on earth. It’s estimated that fewer than 2.5% of the population are Bible-believing Christians. The outward marks of established Christian traditions hide the fact that so many need to hear the gospel of grace.
Thessaloniki, Greece. A young couple and their four children are reaching out to their neighbours in a fairly deprived area; a café is at the heart of their ministry. We asked our Church Engagement Lead, Alison Woodrow, to find out more. This is what she discovered ...
'If the doctrine of predestination is true, and if God has already decided who's going to be saved and who's not, then why pray, why evangelise, why bother?' That's what a lot of Christians think. But the clear teaching of the Bible, a right understanding of 'reformed theology', and 2,000 years of church history give the lie to those common caricatures of Calvinism. The floods in north-east Italy have affected three of our missionary families and their neighbourhoods. Stefano and Jenny Mariotti have witnessed devastation in Budrio, with an important bridge washed away and families evacuated. Forlí, where Michael and Mary Steedman have lived for many years, is also badly affected. Manuel and Jania Morelli serve in Ravenna with their daughters Rebecca and Rachele. They have been at the forefront of efforts to help affected citizens of the town, and Manuel wrote this article for The Gospel Coalition in Italy. Click on link to read the full article.
Since the Reformation, the religious history of France has been very mixed: on the one hand, we have John Calvin (born and converted in France) and the Huguenots; on the other hand, the infamous St. Bartholomew's Day massacre (1572) and the French Revolution. But what about today? With Catholicism still influential, Islam steadily growing, and more and more people in France identifying as agnostics or atheists, how is evangelical Christianity doing? Click on link to access video recording of this fascinating discussion with David Brown and Peter Calvert (pastors ministering in France), and Romuald Lasnes (EMF missionary serving in Paris).
