2/2/2021

Pepe Moreno is the pastor of the evangelical church in Alcázar, Spain. He is also a prolific author. His latest book has just been published.

(1) Your latest book called ‘In the Day I Fear’ has just been published. But this is not your first book. Tell us about the others?

Well, I started to write articles, something which I still do, but as for books, the first was a Short History of Evangelicalism in Alcázar and nearby towns (2005). I also wrote about the presence of the Bible in Don Quijote (2007) My next book was on Jonathan Edwards and the Passion for the Glory of God (2008).This was followed by William Wilberforce and the fight against slavery (2012), C.S. Lewis and his legacy in the Chronicles of Narnia (2014), the Influence of the Reformation in the workplace and Social Protection(2018), La Biblia del Siglo de Oro Español about the first complete translation of the Bible into Spanish from the original Hebrew and Greek in1569 ( 2020), and In the Day I Fear (2021) I have also been a contributor to several other volumes throughout the years. Of these I highlight Juan Calderón Espadero the first Spanish protestant journalist and cervantist scholar in La Mancha. This was with Ángel Romera (2017)

(2) You already have a very busy ministry pastoring the church in Alcázar, engaging in various evangelistic endeavours, speaking at conferences etc – so why do youinvest time and energy in writing?

I always have an evangelistic aim in mind. This does not mean all the books are evangelistic as such, but that they provide wonderful and natural openings for the Gospel in so many ways. I think it is crucial to make people aware of the riches of the message of the Bible and our evangelical past and books are a good way to do so.

(3) Tell us why you decided to write this book?

This book is on a subject that has been on my heart for many years: the fear of God. But I have presented it in a certain context. Here is how it is presented by the publishers: “Failure, rejection, sickness, losing a loved one, being alone—the fears we carry are many and burdensome. Fear is like a tyrant commander that does what it pleases. It can paralyse our thoughts, ruin our lives, and threaten our faith. This book explores how there is only one fear that conquers every other fear–the fear of the Lord.”

(4)Do you have any ideas or plans for more books?

Yes, I do. I am exploring more of our local history in terms of evangelical influence. I am also thinking about books for believers in the line of my last one. Please pray that the Lord will guide me and use my writing ministry for the good of his people and the glory of his name.
