Finland is a Northern European nation bordering Sweden, Norway and Russia.

Its capital, Helsinki, occupies a peninsula and surrounding islands in the Baltic Sea. There are some 170,000 lakes in Finland larger than 500 square metres, leading to the saying "the land of a thousand lakes". Nearly two-thirds of Finland is blanketed by thick woodlands, making it the most densely forested country in Europe. Finland has a largely secular society, and even though most Finns identify as Christians, less than 8% consistently attend any kind of religious service.
